INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – When we arrived Tuesday at the east side practice of the Game Time Packers, the players were doing wind sprints and pushups. It’s just part of the preparation they do under the watchful eye of Coach Dale.
“It’s not really about football. It’s about all the violence that’s going on in the community, so we thought what we could do is basically gather these kids at an early stage and just start working with their minds early,” the coach said. “Not only on their minds, but while we’re doing it we also work on their physical (aspects), getting them in shape and helping them come out here and make new friends every day.
Coach Dale said he is also trying to teach the kids about networking.
“It’s not about money,” he said. “It’s actually about a person. Who you are, what you want to be, and how you reach out to others, affect others. That our goal right now.
“We want championships, we want to win games, but most of all, we’re trying to teach these kids to grow up and become responsible men.”
The Packers have already won a couple of trophies in the Independent League.
The team welcomes community support and lists sponsorship opportunities on their website.
